Shapleigh Board of Selectmen
Minutes of Meeting – Time 6:00 pm
August 24, 2021
Call to Order
Chairman Scott E. Cudworth called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm William J. Mageary and Michael J. Cote in attendance. Also in attendance was Karla B. Wilcox the Town Administrator. Joanne Holland the Office Assistant was absent.
Maggie Moody, Anna Desmond, David Mann, Joanne Bargioni, Kathy Fagan, aAron Sabine, Duffy Gold and Nancy Small.
Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Approval of minutes from previous meeting:
Selectman William J. Mageary made a motion to approve the minutes for August 3, 2021 as amended; seconded by Michael J. Cote. No further discussion. All in favor. Motion carried.
Presentation to Maggie Moody, Anna Desmond and David Mann
Scott E. Cudworth presented certificates of appreciations and a small gift to Maggie Moody, Anna Desmond and David Mann. William J. Mageary had read the certificate as "The Town of Shapleigh and the Board of Selectmen want to thank you for your many years of support and continued volunteerism. With sincere appreciation for the many valuable contributions made towards the success of our town. Dated August 24, 2021."
Kathy Fagan asked the Board if they have thought about broadcasting the Selectmen meetings, Chairman Cudworth had stated that in the past it had been brought to the Board but hadn't been passed because previous Selectmen did not support. The Board will reconsider during the budget process.
i. Discussion Regarding Emery Mills Bridge/Warrant Article
The Town Administrator had suggested to the Board a discussion on what if the Emery Mills Bridge warrant article is not approved. Duffy Gold stated one option could be a one lane bridge with traffic signals or do nothing and wait for calamity. Town Administrator stated that she had reached out to Ben at the Maine DOT last week and he stated that he didn't know when the bridge report would be completed for 2021. The Town Administrator will contact his supervisor to see if she can get more information. A workshop will be scheduled to discuss further options on the Emery Mills Bridge.
I. 2021 Assessors Return
The Board reviewed and signed the 2021 Assessors return for the 2021 Tax Commitment.
II. Transfer Station Disposal
The Board of Selectmen discussed the disposal of boats at the Transfer Station and it was decided not to accept boats and refer them to Jeff Simpson in Sanford for disposal. A notice will be displayed at the Transfer Station.
Michael J. Cote suggested to place a yield or stop sign coming out of the Transfer Station top section. The Town Administrator will order the sign and have the Road Commissioner install it.
III. Vacation Request from Town Administrator
The Town Administrator presented to the Board a vacation request for September 3, September 17, October 1 and October 8, 2021 Michael J. Cote made a motion to approve the vacation request; seconded by William J. Mageary. No further discussion. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Michael J. Cote to adjourn at 6:30 pm; seconded by William J. Mageary. Motion passed unanimously.
